Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
The Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded, who met King Asa and delivered a message concerning the consequences of seeking or forsaking the LORD. Upon hearing this prophecy, Asa removed detestable idols from the lands of Judah and Benjamin as well as captured cities, and he restored the altar of the LORD at the temple. He then assembled all of Judah, Benjamin, and resident members of the northern tribes in Jerusalem in the fifteenth year of his reign to offer sacrifices and enter into a covenant to seek the LORD. The assembly took an oath with loud acclamation and rejoiced, after which the LORD gave them rest on every side. Additionally, Asa deposed his grandmother Maacah from her royal position for making an Asherah pole, which he cut down and burned in the Kidron Valley, and he dedicated silver, gold, and articles to the house of God while peace continued until his thirty-fifth year.
