Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign, King Baasha of Israel fortified Ramah against Judah, prompting King Asa to send silver and gold from the temple and palace treasuries to King Ben-hadad of Aram to break his treaty with Baasha. Ben-hadad attacked Israelite cities, causing Baasha to abandon Ramah, after which Asa used the leftover stones and timber to fortify Geba and Mizpah. Hanani the seer then rebuked Asa for relying on the king of Aram rather than God, leading an angry Asa to imprison the seer and oppress some of the people. In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa developed a severe foot disease and sought help only from physicians rather than the LORD. Asa died in the forty-first year of his reign and was buried in a tomb in the City of David amidst spices, perfumes, and a great fire made in his honor.
