Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
King Hezekiah became mortally ill, but after he wept and prayed, the prophet Isaiah returned to announce that God would heal him, add fifteen years to his life, and deliver Jerusalem from Assyria. As a sign of this promise, God made the shadow on the stairway of Ahaz go back ten steps following Isaiah's prayer. Later, Merodach-baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, who welcomed the envoys and showed them all his treasures and armory. Upon learning of this, Isaiah rebuked Hezekiah and prophesied that all the palace's wealth and some of his descendants would eventually be carried off to Babylon. Finally, after recording his other acts and his construction of the water tunnel, Hezekiah died and was succeeded by his son Manasseh.
