Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
In the spring, Joab led the army of Israel to ravage the land of the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah while David remained in Jerusalem. After Joab demolished Rabbah, David took the king's heavy golden crown adorned with precious stones, gathered a large amount of plunder, and put the city's inhabitants to forced labor with saws, picks, and axes before returning to Jerusalem. Later, during wars against the Philistines at Gezer and Gath, Israelite warriors defeated several descendants of Rapha of giant stature. Specifically, Sibbecai killed Sippai, Elhanan killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath, and Jonathan, the son of David's brother Shimei, killed a giant with twenty-four fingers and toes who had taunted Israel.
