Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
David defeated the Philistines and subdued Gath, then defeated the Moabites, who became subject to him and brought tribute. He subsequently defeated King Hadadezer of Zobah near the Euphrates River, capturing his military forces and equipment, and later defeated the Arameans of Damascus who came to Hadadezer's aid, placing garrisons in their territory. David took gold shields and a large amount of bronze from Hadadezer's cities to Jerusalem, while King Tou of Hamath sent his son Hadoram with precious metal and bronze gifts to congratulate David. Furthermore, Abishai struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt, establishing garrisons so that all Edomites became subject to David. Finally, David reigned over all Israel administering justice and righteousness, supported by his appointed officials including Joab over the army, Jehoshaphat as recorder, Zadok and Ahimelech as priests, Shavsha as scribe, Benaiah over the Cherethites and Pelethites, and his own sons as chief officials.
