Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
A fountain is opened for the house of David and Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin and impurity, while the LORD of Hosts declares the removal of idols and prophets from the land. Anyone who continues to prophesy will be pierced by his own parents for speaking falsely in the name of the LORD. Prophets will consequently feel ashamed of their visions, deny their prophetic status, and attribute their chest wounds to the house of their friends rather than prophesying with hairy cloaks. The LORD then commands the sword to strike His Shepherd and Companion, causing the sheep to scatter and two-thirds of the population in the land to perish. Finally, the remaining third of the people are brought through the fire to be refined and tested, calling upon the LORD's name as their God.
