Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, commanding him to go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim the message given to him. Jonah obeyed and traveled to Nineveh, entering the city on the first day of his journey to announce that it would be overturned in forty days. The people of Nineveh believed God, declared a fast, and put on sackcloth, regardless of their status. When the king of Nineveh heard the news, he left his throne, removed his royal robe, covered himself in sackcloth, and sat in ashes. The king then issued a decree requiring all people and animals to fast, wear sackcloth, call out earnestly to God, and turn from their evil ways and violence. Observing their actions and their turning from evil, God relented and did not bring the disaster He had threatened upon them.
