Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
In the fourth year of Jehoiakim king of Judah, the prophet Jeremiah relayed a divine message to Baruch the son of Neriah after Baruch had written Jeremiah’s words onto a scroll. Baruch had previously expressed deep distress, lamenting that the Lord had added sorrow to his pain, leaving him worn out with groaning and without rest. In response, the Lord declared through Jeremiah that He intended to demolish what He had built and uproot what He had planted throughout the entire land. Addressing Baruch's personal ambitions, the Lord asked if he was seeking great things for himself and commanded him to stop doing so. Finally, the Lord announced that He would bring disaster upon every living creature, yet He promised to spare Baruch's life as a spoil of war wherever he might go.
