Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
After Jeremiah finished delivering the Lord's message, Azariah, Johanan, and other arrogant men accused Jeremiah of lying and claimed Baruch was inciting him against them. Consequently, Johanan and the military commanders disobeyed the Lord's command to stay in Judah and led the entire remnant of Judah, including Jeremiah and Baruch, into Egypt as far as Tahpanhes. While at Tahpanhes, the Lord instructed Jeremiah to bury large stones in the clay pavement at the entrance of Pharaoh's palace in the sight of the Jews. Jeremiah then announced that the Lord would send King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon to set his throne over those buried stones, strike down Egypt, burn its temples, capture its gods, and demolish its sacred pillars.
