Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
In the fourth year of King Zedekiah's reign, the prophet Hananiah from Gibeon publicly prophesied in the house of the LORD that God would break the yoke of the king of Babylon and return the exiles and temple articles within two years. Jeremiah responded by noting that past prophets predicted war and disaster, stating that a prophet of peace is only recognized when his words come true. Hananiah then removed the wooden yoke from Jeremiah's neck and broke it, reiterating his prophecy before the people. Subsequently, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, instructing him to tell Hananiah that the wooden yoke had been replaced with an iron yoke of servitude to Babylon and announcing Hananiah's death for preaching rebellion. In the seventh month of that same year, Hananiah died.
