Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
After King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon exiled Jeconiah, the officials, and craftsmen from Jerusalem to Babylon, the Lord showed the prophet Jeremiah two baskets of figs placed before the temple. One basket contained extremely good figs that ripened early, while the other held very poor figs that were inedible. The Lord explained to Jeremiah that the good figs represented the Jewish exiles sent to the land of the Chaldeans, whom He would watch over, return to their homeland, and grant a heart to know Him. Conversely, the inedible bad figs represented King Zedekiah, his officials, the remnant of Jerusalem, and those living in Egypt. The Lord stated He would make these remaining people a horror, disgrace, and object of cursing across all kingdoms, sending the sword, famine, and plague against them until they perished from the land.
