Chapter summary
In the sixth year, while Ezekiel sat in his house with the elders of Judah, the hand of the Lord God fell upon him and revealed a fiery, amber-bright figure. By the Spirit in a vision, Ezekiel was carried to Jerusalem to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the glory of the God of Israel appeared alongside an idol that provokes jealousy. The Lord then led Ezekiel to a hole in the wall, revealing seventy elders of Israel, including Jaazaniah son of Shaphan, burning incense before walls engraved with crawling creatures and detestable idols. Next, Ezekiel was brought to the north gate of the Lord's house, where women were sitting and weeping for Tammuz. Finally, at the entrance to the temple between the portico and the altar, about twenty-five men stood with their backs to the temple while bowing eastward to worship the sun. Concluding this vision of abominations, the Lord declared that He would respond with wrath and show no pity.
