Chapter summary
In the eleventh year, on the first day of the third month, the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel regarding Pharaoh king of Egypt and his multitude. The prophet was instructed to compare them to Assyria, depicted as a great cedar in Lebanon whose height, nourished by abundant waters, surpassed all the trees in the garden of God. Because of its pride in growing so high, the Lord delivered Assyria into the hand of a foreign ruler who cut it down, causing its branches to fall across the mountains, valleys, and ravines. Consequently, foreign nations abandoned its shade, birds nested on its fallen trunk, and beasts lived among its broken boughs. The Lord then declared that Pharaoh and his multitude would likewise be brought down to the depths of the earth to lie in Sheol among the uncircumcised and those slain by the sword.
