Chapter summary
In the tenth year, the word of the LORD came to Ezekiel directing him to prophesy against Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who claimed ownership of the Nile. God stated He was against Pharaoh and would haul him and the fish of his streams into the desert to be food for beasts and birds, because Egypt had been an unreliable support for Israel. Consequently, God declared He would bring a sword against Egypt, turning the land into an uninhabited wasteland from Migdol to Syene for forty years and scattering the Egyptians among other nations. After forty years, God promised to gather the Egyptians back to Pathros, restoring them as a lowly kingdom that would never again rule over nations or be trusted by Israel. Later, in the twenty-seventh year, the word of the LORD noted that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his army received no wages for their hard labor against Tyre. Therefore, God stated He would give the wealth, spoil, and plunder of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar as wages for his army's work, and on that day, God would cause a horn to sprout for the house of Israel.
