Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
Merodach-baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to King Hezekiah of Judah after hearing of his illness and recovery. Hezekiah gladly welcomed the Babylonian envoys and showed them all his treasures, including silver, gold, spices, precious oil, and his entire armory. Following this visit, the prophet Isaiah questioned Hezekiah about the men and what they had seen, and Hezekiah confirmed that they had seen everything in his palace. Isaiah then delivered a message from the LORD, prophesying that all the stored treasures and some of Hezekiah's own descendants would eventually be carried off to Babylon. Hezekiah accepted this word as good, noting that there would at least be peace and security during his own lifetime.
