Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
In that day, the LORD will punish Leviathan the fleeing and coiling serpent with His mighty sword and slay the dragon of the sea. He commands a song about a well-guarded, fruitful vineyard and declares that Jacob and Israel will take root, blossom, and fill the world with fruit. Although the LORD contended with Israel through warfare and exile, this discipline atones for Jacob's guilt and results in the destruction of idolatrous altar stones and Asherah poles. Meanwhile, the fortified city is left deserted and abandoned, with its dry branches broken off for firewood by the people. Finally, the LORD will thresh grain from the Euphrates to the Wadi of Egypt, gathering the Israelites one by one. A great ram’s horn will sound, and those perishing in Assyria and exiled in Egypt will return to worship the LORD on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.
