Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
In the year the commander sent by Sargon, king of Assyria, attacked and captured Ashdod, the Lord instructed Isaiah, son of Amoz, to remove the sackcloth from his waist and his sandals from his feet. Isaiah obeyed, walking around naked and barefoot for three years. The Lord explained that this action served as a visual sign and omen concerning Egypt and Cush. According to this divine message, the king of Assyria would subsequently lead away the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Cush—both young and old—naked and barefoot with bared buttocks, bringing shame to Egypt. Consequently, those who had relied upon and boasted in Cush and Egypt would be dismayed. Finally, the inhabitants of the coastland would lament their ruined source of hope, questioning how they could escape the king of Assyria.
