Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, and Joshua, the high priest. The Lord questioned why the people lived in paneled houses while His own house lay in ruins, noting that their agricultural efforts and earnings had yielded little because of a drought He summoned upon the land. In response to Haggai's message, Zerubbabel, Joshua, and the remnant of the people obeyed the Lord and feared Him. Subsequently, the Lord stirred their spirits, and on the twenty-fourth day of the same month, they began working on the house of the Lord of Hosts.
