Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
Upon hearing of Abner’s death in Hebron, Ish-bosheth lost courage and all Israel was dismayed. Taking advantage of the king's midday nap, two raiding party leaders named Rechab and Baanah entered Ish-bosheth's house in Beeroth, stabbed him in the stomach, and cut off his head. They then traveled all night through the Arabah to present the head to David in Hebron, declaring it vengeance against Saul's offspring. However, David condemned their murder of a righteous man in his own house and commanded his men to execute Rechab and Baanah. Finally, David's men mutilated and hanged the assassins' bodies by the pool in Hebron while burying Ish-bosheth's head in Abner’s tomb.
