Berean Standard Bible
Chapter summary
Ahaz son of Jotham became king of Judah at age twenty and reigned in Jerusalem for sixteen years, during which he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord. When Rezin king of Aram and Pekah king of Israel besieged Jerusalem, Ahaz sent silver and gold from the temple and palace treasuries to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria to ask for rescue. The king of Assyria marched against Damascus, captured it, exiled its people, and put Rezin to death. While visiting Tiglath-pileser in Damascus, Ahaz sent plans for a new altar to Uriah the priest, who constructed it prior to the king's return. Upon coming back, Ahaz offered sacrifices on the new altar, relocated the bronze altar, altered various furnishings in the temple on account of the king of Assyria, and eventually died to be succeeded by his son Hezekiah.
